How does Teneo manage online/cyber-bullying?
At Teneo, we have a zero-tolerance policy on cyberbullying to ensure a safe and supportive environment for our learners. However, we cannot control interactions on platforms like WhatsApp. We encourage parents to actively monitor their child's social media and join the same groups to help maintain a respectful online community for all learners.

How do learners interact in an online schooling environment?
At Teneo, we offer three school formats: Live, Mix of Live and Pre-Recorded, Pre-Recorded. Live lessons foster real-time interaction among learners. We believe in a social approach to learning, where classes and discussions are designed to promote teamwork and meaningful collaboration. How do learners socialize in an online schooling environment?

Do you have WhatsApp parent groups?
At Teneo, we want to clarify that we do not run or manage any parent or learner WhatsApp groups. While we truly value and support all parent collaborations, we encourage you to utilize Teneo’s Parent Facebook Group and our Support channels as your official sources for the most up-to-date information and guidance.
Can my child complete his/her schooling via a phone or tablet?
For the best learning experience with Teneo, your child must complete their schooling using a laptop or desktop computer. While phones and tablets can be useful for occasional access, our platform is optimized for larger screens to ensure that all lessons, materials, and interactive features function smoothly. Using a laptop or desktop will provide your child with a more effective and engaging educational experience, allowing them to fully participate in live lessons and access resources without any limitations.
What happens during load shedding?
We recommend a backup power source for desktop computers, laptops, as well as the routers. A laptop power supply or a UPS for a desktop, generator, inverter, Wibox for the internet router or secondary location with power is highly recommended. This backup power, internet and venue reduces stress significantly during the test and exam time.
Do you offer scholarships or bursaries?
No, we currently do not offer scholarships or bursaries.
Do you have space for my child?
Teneo is an inclusive school, and we will always have space for your child! While there are specific registration deadlines within each term, you can register at Teneo at any time throughout the year.
Can a learner register for a single subject?
Teneo does not offer single subject registration.
Do you offer placement assessments?
A Teneo placement assessment is only available for Grade 1 - 3. For Grade 4 - 9 it is advised that learners are assessed by an external Educational Psychologist if an assessment is needed. This service is not provided by Teneo. For Grade 10 - 12 learners, it is important to note that the National Senior Certificate is a 3-year program and any students who do not have a previous report will need to start the FET Phase (Grade 10 - 12) at the beginning of Grade 10.
What programme/app does Teneo use for online classes?
All of Teneo's live classes take place on the online learning platform.
Can you change between formats throughout the year?
A learner's school format may be changed at any time during a month by submitting the applicable form before the applicable cut-off date in that month, and the school format change will take effect in the same month, or if after the applicable cut-off date, the school format change will take effect during the following month.
Does Teneo offer an Adult Matric programme?
No, Teneo does not offer an Adult Matric programme.
Is there orientation for new learners?
Yes, there is a school orientation for all new learners at Teneo. This orientation is designed to provide them with everything they need to ensure a smooth and successful academic journey. It covers how to navigate the platform, access their lessons and learning content, and get comfortable with the online learning environment.
When will learners receive their stationery and textbook lists?
Once learners are registered at Teneo, they will receive their stationery and textbook lists to help them prepare for the school year. This ensures they have everything they need for a successful start.
Are textbooks required or is everything online?
While all subject content is integrated into our online learning platform, certain subjects still require textbooks. You can find these on the grade-specific textbook lists provided..
If a student misses a live class, how do they catch up the lesson?
After each live lesson, learners have access to the lesson recordings, allowing them to re-watch the lessons as often as needed. This helps reinforce learning and provides flexibility for review.
Are your lessons recorded for viewing at a later stage?
All lessons including the live lessons are recorded and available on the online learning platform for viewing 24/7.
What are your school hours/ how long is the school day?
07:45 – 14:15 (These times vary slightly according to school and phase).
Do learners get breaks between lessons?
Yes, learners have breaks between lessons. Each class includes a 5 to 10-minute break, and there is also a designated break time every day. The length of breaks may vary depending on the grade level, ensuring learners have time to rest and recharge.
Does Teneo have a Code of Conduct?

What is the duration of a live lesson at Teneo?
Live lessons at Teneo typically range from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the grade level of the learner.
When will learners get their timetables?
Timetables are available weekly in the learner's calendar in our online learning platform.
What will happen if there is loadshedding and the teacher can’t present a lesson?
In the event of load shedding, teachers will post an announcement in the course (provided they still have signal) and will upload a recording of the lesson as soon as possible.
How does Teneo prevent cheating during online examinations?
We use world class online proctoring software to ensure academic integrity during all online examinations.
Is there a lot of homework?
The amount of homework assigned varies by subject and is designed to align with curriculum requirements. Each piece of homework is prescribed to support learners in their studies effectively.
How do the teachers communicate extra information to learners?
Teachers will communicate through the ‘Announcements’ section of each course or via the online learning platform inbox. Messages may be sent to individual learners or to the entire class. It’s important for both learners and parents to check these regularly to stay informed.
Does Teneo allow learners to enrol for Grade 11 and Grade 12 in the same year?
Unfortunately, learners cannot complete both Grade 11 and Grade 12 in one year, as this does not align with the curriculum and academic requirements for each grade. This structure is in place to ensure that all learners receive the necessary depth of knowledge and skills for each level.
Can the British International exams be written internationally?
If there is a Pearson Exam Venue available, then yes, British International examinations can be written abroad.
Where can parents send their concession documents for a child who has learning barriers?
Please ensure that all concession documents are uploaded to the registration portal during the registration process. If you need to send any additional concession documents, please email [email protected]
Is there an age limit for each grade?
Yes, a learner's age is important for each grade. The ages per grade are particularly significant in live classes to maintain appropriate peer groups. Additionally, a previous academic report is required to ensure that a learner is placed in the correct age group, which helps support their social and academic development.
How are EGD drawings/ Mathematic worksheets/ Art assignments submitted?
Any questions that require hand-written answers, diagrams or calculations are done on paper, scanned, and then uploaded in the assigment question to the online learning platform. This upload has a specified format, time and place. Art submissions make use of videos, time and dated photography and PowerPoint submission.
When and where are Grade 12 Preliminary Examinations/Trials written?
All Grade 12 Preliminary Examinations are completed online through Teneo Online School towards the end of Term 3. The Preliminary Examination dates are published as soon as they are available from the relevant examination boards.
How are assessments completed at Teneo?
All assessments from Grade R to Grade 12 are completed on our online learning platform. The only assessments not completed on the online learning platform are the Grade 12 Final Examinations.
How do learners complete their practical examinations?
Examinations are completed via the online learning platform. For practical exams, learners will need to record themselves and upload their videos there as well. Teachers will provide clear instructions to help guide learners through this process.
Can we meet with the teachers online if we have concerns?
Parents are welcome and encouraged to request a meeting with the Grade Leader if they have any questions.
Do you offer Tutors?

Does Teneo accept learners who have dyslexia/learning accommodations/concessions?
Teneo is an inclusive online school that welcomes all learners, including those with learning barriers such as dyslexia, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, and sensory processing issues. We adhere to national policies on accommodations and concessions, ensuring fair participation without compromising academic integrity. Can learners with learning barriers apply for concessions?
For each phase of school, parents or guardians will need to apply for concessions through an examination board, which may involve additional costs. Teneo is here to assist in this process by submitting the application along with the necessary documentation. It’s important to note that while online schooling provides flexibility, physical support for learners with learning barriers is the responsibility of parents or guardians. Some learners may need extra help navigating the platform, and while Teneo offers additional time for assessments, families are responsible for arranging and funding trained readers and scribes for formal assessments.
Will learners get a matric certificate?
Yes, learners who complete their Grade 12 with Teneo will receive a matric National Senior Certificate once all academic requirements have been fulfilled.
Will learners be able to attend university when they complete their Grade 12 with Teneo?
As the only online school in South Africa registered with three top exam boards, Teneo ensures that learners will matriculate with a South African National Senior Certificate (NSC). This qualification opens doors to higher education at both local and international tertiary institutions. If your child completes their NSC with Teneo and earns a bachelor’s pass, they are eligible to apply to universities. Many of our alumni have gone on to study at prestigious institutions such as UCT, Stellenbosch University, Wits, and Tuks.
Will I receive a termly progress report?
Yes, all learners at Teneo will receive a termly progress report.
Can I view my child's marks?
Once an assessment has been submitted and graded, the marks will be made visible to learners. Throughout the year, all grades can be accessed at any time, allowing both learners and parents to track progress and stay informed about academic performance. This transparency helps in understanding areas of strength and opportunities for improvement.
How do I view my child's work and progress at Teneo?
You can view your child's work and progress by creating a Parent App to connect with Teneo's online learning platform. You can easily link this login to a smartphone app, allowing you to monitor your child's progress anytime, from any device. The Parent App will keep you updated on test scores, assignment submissions, and attendance, helping you support your child's learning journey.
How often do learners write tests?
All assigned tests, assignments, and examinations are designed to meet the curriculum requirements, which differ by subject.
Can I register my child with Teneo if he/she does not have a report as he/she was home schooled?
If a learner does not have a report, a Teneo placement assessment is only available for Grade 1 - 3. For Grade 4 - 9 it is advised that learners are assessed by an external Educational Psychologist and all documentation be emailed to Teneo at [email protected] Learners who do not have a report due to being home schooled will need to ensure that a placement test is completed at the beginning of the year as learners can only be registered without a report in Term 1. For Grade 10 - 12 learners, it is important to note that the National Senior Certificate is a 3 year program and any students who do not have a previous report will need to start the FET Phase at the beginning of Grade 10.
Which curriculums does Teneo offer?
Teneo offers learners the opportunity to study in either the South African (CAPS) curriculum for Grade R - 12 or the British International curriculum from Year 8 to AS Levels.
When is the last day for registration for 2025?
Learners from Grade R to Grade 11 can enrol by specific dates each term throughout the year. Please note that Grade 12 enrollment close on February 1st, and we won’t be able to accept any Grade 12 enrollments after this date.
Which documents do you require when I register my child at Teneo?
To complete the registration process at Teneo, you will need to upload your child's birth certificate, their most recent school report, and your ID document. If your child has any learning barriers, it's important to include all relevant supporting documents as well. This information helps us provide the best support for your child’s educational journey.
Do I need to pay a registration fee?
There is a registration fee of R1 500 that you need to pay once your child's registration has been approved.
How does Teneo send information or letters to parents?
Teneo sends out letters and notifications via a mailing system to the e-mail address provided by the parent/guardian. It is important to check your inbox regularly.
Do you have real-time examination support?
Teneo provides Exam Support which is real-time, immediate face-to-face assistance via a Zoom meeting, for all technical difficulties during tests and exams.
What support does Teneo have in place?
Getting support is a simple process. The Family Portal allows you to log support tickets for assistance with a range of issues, including technical, registration, account, academic, and general inquiries. This helps ensure that your queries are resolved efficiently.

Do I need to register with the Department of Education when I am enrolling into your online school?
In short, no. The Department of Basic Education (DBE), which is accredited by the Umalusi Council, is in the final stages of developing a Draft Framework for the Registration and Regulation of Online Schools. This Framework is intended to provide guidance on the establishment, registration, accreditation and regulation of online schools in South Africa.
Is IEB harder than SACAI?
Teneo follows an IEB-aligned approach from Grade R to Grade 9, based on the South African National (CAPS) Curriculum. This approach focuses on developing skills in problem solving, critical thinking, and knowledge application to prepare learners for their chosen examination body (SACAI / IEB) for Grade 10 to Grade 12.
What are examination boards?
Examination boards are organizations responsible for developing, administering, and assessing standardized examinations. They establish the curriculum, create examination assessments, and set grading criteria for various educational qualifications. Examination boards ensure that assessments are fair, reliable, and consistent across different schools and regions. They often oversee a range of qualifications and provide certifications to learners upon successful completion.

If a family is emigrating, can their child write his/her final exams overseas?
The South African Curriculum final examinations must be written at an examination venue in South Africa. Learners studying the British International curriculum who are not in South Africa, may write their examinations at a Pearson Edexcel venue near them if possible.
When do we find out about final matric exam venues?
Final matric examination venues are allocated by the relevant examination boards in the first half of the year.
Why do I have to pay examination board fees?
Examination board fees are payable to Teneo so that Teneo can register your child with their chosen examinaiton board (SACAI / IEB ) when your child writes their final matric examination for their National Senior Certificate. These fees are payable over and above the tuition fees. Every learner will write their final matric examination at a physical board-designated venue that is allocated to them.
